Colorado Springs gun friendly (2025)

Hi, new to the forum and really am enjoying it. Have lived in MA, NH, TX and VA before coming here--work for the Air Force as a Program Manager. Had CCWs in all of those states--got mine in MA after separating from the Air Force active duty, in Middlesex County where they were virtually impossible to get. The Chief of Police are the granting authority in MA. I flew fighters in SEA and he figured if the Air Force trusted me with 1000 pound bombs--or nukes, I probably was worth allowing to carry my Hi-power. Renewal in Norfolk County (down where the Pats play) was a question of "pick it up next tuesday." So in the most (then) gun unfriendly state in the union, it still varied based on where you lived. The western part of the state also was a lot easier. At any rate, all of the other states were shall issue, gun friendly, and no problem whatsoever. Even getting my non-resident in MA a few years ago--the State Police issue non-res, was easy.

Comes now Colorado Springs. The sheriffs issue CCWs in CO. Not only was it a pleasant, easy process--although not cheap! but I received a letter from the Sheriff aftet I got the permit (2 weeks) congratulating me for chosing to defend my property and family! His name is Makita and he is the most all out pro private citizen's right of the people leo I've ever had the pleasure to deal with. El Paso county is the most gun friendly place I've ever lived. I don't normally open carry, but would have no problem doing it whatsoever in the Springs. Outside of Denver and some of the liberal lunatic tree hugger havens--Vail, Boulder, etc, Colorado is the kind of state you would expect in the West. If the kalifornian yuppies don't like it,

Welcome to the forum. as you have seen from my previous posts, I have OCed around the springs a little and had no negative experienes or interactions. I am looking into the Garden of the Gods thing. My info regarding who owns it was indeed wrong. The sign stating that firearms are prohibited was real, asI saw it with my own eyes. My mom is going to go searching for the sign this weekend and take a picture. Since you are local, if the sign is still up, would you be interested in helping to ensure its removal by writting to a few people?

I have friends who live in El Paso County. They love their Sheriff!!! I'm the next county up (Douglas) and our Sheriff is pro-gun/self defense. Seems that there's enough of us on the front range to organize an OC lunch...hint hint!!!

Yes, I would. I didn't notice a sign when I and my daughter were there last year, but wasn't really looking. As the park is one of many COS owns--and none of the others have any sign prohibiting firearms, I'll call the city manager if it is there. I don't doubt you, just know that no town or city can preempt state laws--at least with respect to honoring CCWs, not even the Peoples Republic of Denver--and COS is about as gun friendly as you can get. Let me know.

Let me know. I never noticed a sign, or would have contacted the COS City Manager. I don't doubt you, but state law preempts City law with respect to CCW, at least. Even the Peoples Democratic Republic of Denver has to comply. Would it have mentioned 'open' carry, perhaps? Any way, let me know and I'll look into it.

No update yet on if the sign is still there. I should be getting word anytime now. It was by one of the entrances near Manitou Springs if you are in the area.

OC lunch in maybe Monument may be the ticket! Perhaps Village Inn right off I-25. I think Monument may be accessible to most. Or perhaps a bit farther north in Castle Rock for our Boulder/Loveland/Greeley friends.

I could probably make it to Monument some Saturday. Hell, the last few weekends I have been doing a little deer scouting in that direction anyway. OC'd a little bit in Woodland Park last Saturday.

Monument/Castle Rock both work for me location-wise, but scheduling will bemy big issue.

Count my mom in! She conceals when I am OCing in Colorado Springs, but she is interested in participating in a lunch type event with members here.

Cool!!! Looks like we got enough folks for a decent sized table. Let me make a call/visit to Village Inn at both locations and make sure they are down with the plan. After I get a positive, we can start planning a good date/time. Hell, it'll be the best protected restaurant in the county!!
